How do I book a tattoo appointment?

What days/hours do you work?

Do you have a wait list/cancellation list?

I do not have a wait list/cancellation list, as I currently only book a few months in advance at a time to keep my wait times low. You can keep an eye open for last minute openings on my Instagram page.

Do you tattoo minors?

You must be over 18 (even with parental consent), this applies during guest spots as well. It’s on you forever, trust me it’s worth the wait!

What is your hourly rate/how much will my tattoo cost?

Unless we’ve had a consultation, I can’t give you an accurate estimate, as there are so many variables between each tattoo project.
If you are booking a consultation, be prepared to leave a deposit of $200 in order to secure your appointment. (That will come off the final price of your tattoo)

Can I see my drawing before my appointment?

I’ll have your design ready for the day of your appointment, however I book extra time for us to go over your drawing, and am happy to make any small adjustments needed at that time. If you are clear in your consultation and references, it is very rare that I have to make any large changes to your design.
Any major redraws may result in the loss of your deposit, and require a new deposit to book an appointment. If you have any major changes to the design, please contact me at least a week prior to your appointment to avoid any extra costs. (It is up to the artists’ discretion on what is considered a major redraw or if the changes are possible)

How do I prepare for my tattoo appointment?

- Get a good night’s sleep
- Stay hydrated/limit caffeine intake
- Shower
- Moisturize your skin
- Eat a large meal beforehand
- Bring snacks and a water bottle
- Bring headphones if you’d like to watch/listen to anything on your phone during your tattoo
- Wear loose, comfy clothes and layers that allow easy access to the area being tattooed (ask me if you’re unsure of what to wear)
- Let me know beforehand if you have any health or accessibility concerns that I can assist with
- Bring payment

What should I avoid before/while getting tattooed?

- Do not drink alcohol/do drugs before your appointment or show up intoxicated
- Do not show up with damaged skin (cuts, bruises, burns, rashes, peeling or fresh tans)
- Do not use any numbing cream (unless cleared with your artist beforehand)
- Do not shave or wax, I will shave you at your appointment
- No intensive exercise
- Do not touch your tattoo or artist’s station during your appointment
- Do not cancel last minute

Do you do cover-ups/rework old tattoos? Can you cover scars?

It depends on the existing tattoo or scars if this is possible, often cover-ups and reworks require larger/darker or more complex designs.
Feel free to email me with a photo of your existing tattoo or scarring and a brief description what you’re hoping to cover it with, and I’ll have a better idea of what might be possible. (It’s easier to discuss this in person so often I will suggest a consultation.) janine@j9tattoos.com

Do you do small tattoos?

Yes, I’m happy to fit in small tattoos whenever my schedule allows. Please fill out my request form here.

What if I have to reschedule my appointment?

I require 48 hours’ notice to change or cancel your appointment without loss of deposit, but please let me know as soon as possible as it is difficult to fill last minute openings. (If you are sick or have an emergency, your deposit will of course not be forfeited).
Please be accountable and respect the artist’s time, loss of deposit is at the discretion of the artist for non-emergency cancellations.

I need a touch-up on my existing tattoo, how do I book this?

Please contact me 6-12 weeks after your tattoo appointment if you think you might need a touch-up (if you are unsure, feel free to email me a photo and I can take a look).
Free touch-ups apply to anything that did not heal properly within 6 months of your appointment. There is a $40 supply fee/set up charge for all appointments to be paid in advance upon booking.
If proper aftercare was not followed, or if your tattoo has faded naturally from sun exposure and/or aging, you will be charged regular tattoo rates (tattoo charge is at discretion of the artist).
*Feet, hand, and finger tattoos are exempt from free for touch-ups due to the nature of the skin, and are charged at artist’s discretion*

Do you tip your tattoo artist?

Tips are never expected but always appreciated, and come in all forms (monetary, gifts, etc). Monetary tips are usually similar to what you would tip your hairstylist or other service providers.

What forms of payment do you take?

Cash is always preferred, but most studios also accept debit and credit. Please contact me to check ahead of your appointment if you have any concerns: janine@j9tattoos.com

Do you do art/design commission work?

When my schedule allows, I’m happy to take on custom commission requests!
