LEAVE THE BANDAGE ON OVERNIGHT.
Please ask me for specific instructions on time if you are unsure.
REMOVE BANDAGE AND DISCARD. WASH THE TATTOOED AREA WITH SOAP AND WARM WATER.
Using your hand in the shower, wash and rinse the area several times. Use an unscented clean bar or liquid soap (ie ivory, clear softsoap, unscented Dr. Bronners). To ensure you have thoroughly cleaned the tattoo, the area should feel smooth and not greasy. Any dried blood, lymph, weeping, or fluids on the surface should be washed away. Excess pigment on the surface of your skin is normal, please wash away. The first washing may take several lather/rinse cycles. YOU DO NOT NEED TO PUT ANOTHER BANDAGE ON
ALLOW THE AREA TO AIR DRY OR PAT DRY WITH PAPER TOWEL
Let the tattooed area dry for several minutes before putting on clothing. The area will be irritated for a couple days. Loose soft clothing helps to alleviate any rubbing or further irritation. (Ask me if you need any ideas on what to wear during healing).
WASH THE TATTOOED AREA AT LEAST TWICE A DAY FOR TWO DAYS
Your body will produce some lymph/weep white blood cells to seal the area up from the outside environment. Anytime during the first couple days you notice a crystalline sheen over the tattoo please wash with soap and warm water. Wash morning and evening for two days. When washing after the first post bandage wash, try to use more soap lather than water. Keeping the tattooed area from being soaked.
APPLY A NON SCENTED LOTION OR SKIN MOISTURIZER WHEN DRY, TIGHT, OR ITCHY
After the first few days if the area is dry, tight or itchy applying a small amount of unscented, water based lotion or skin moisturizer will alleviate the itch. Avoid scratching or rubbing the area without lotion. Gentle slapping can help with the itch as well.
Lotions that are simple in ingredients are best. Non-scented. Non-greasy. (Lubriderm brand works well)
KEEP AS DRY AS POSSIBLE FOR TWO MORE DAYS
After the initial two days of washing - keep the tattooed area as dry as possible without soaking for another couple days. Keep the area out of the shower stream- a little water will not prolong the healing - keeping the tattoo dry for a couple days allows the flaking/scabbing to separate and fall off.
You can shower - please do not soak in a bath, swimming pool, go into a sauna for one week. Sweating is fine. If you intend to be at the gym, yoga, or any public health facility be aware in the first five days, treat the tattoo like an open wound and avoid touching it to any surfaces. Wash appropriately after working out.
Tattoo should be healed in 5-7 days but may have dryness and or flakes for another week or so. Apply a small amount of lotion when dry.
Keep tattoo out of the sun for a minimum of three weeks, use a sun block to ensure the brightness of colours . Sun damage will soften and weaken the pigment over long term exposure.
Any question or concerns please contact me.
The above aftercare is to help the tattoo heal quickly, treating the new work well in the first couple months ensures it will settle and continue to be awesome as it ages. Enjoy your new tattoo and I’ll see you again soon!
